Venrar (|Ven-rawr|) is the fifth planet from the sun in the Solanis system. It is classified as a terrestrial planet, with a rocky surface devoid of any water. Due to the shifting tectonic plates of the planet, much of its surface is covered in large mountains and deep valleys. Canyons, crevices, and cliffs also dot the landscape in extreme proportions. The interior is notable for is unusually high density of precious metals and stones, making it the center of raw resource gathering in Solanis.
Physical Characteristics
The surface of Venrar is notable for its lack of any ocean despite sharing many traits of Old Earth including its elements, molten core, and tectonic plates. It is noted as having a heavier gravity than Calderia and Old Earth, making it hard for natives of other planets to function without an exosuit. Due to not having a liquid outer core or strong magnetic field, the planet is weak against solar radiation and the atmosphere is not habitable to most species. The planet does have significant underground aquifers, in such a degree that a subterranean settlement based around one can create a micro-ecosystem where their atmosphere becomes breathable when given the right balance of flora and fauna.
The elevation changes on the surface are so extreme, and the terrain so precarious, that it is practically impossible for any one species to traverse it on foot. Sharp, rocky terrain, solar radiation, and various other natural hazards necessitate the usage of machines to travel the planet's surface. Complex subterranean tunnels by which custom locomotives travel between major settlements have also been built, but small settlements still require surface access. Alongside the many settlements of Venrar there are twice as many mines, by which multiple corporations harvest the natural resources of the planet.
Population
The native population of Venrar is the Nann, thought to descend from humanity's first settlers who did not land on Calderia. They share human's range of hair, eye, and skin color, but stand at a much shorter stature. Most Nann do not grow above 4', with those who are above 3'10" considered tall in their culture. Due to their environment and natural occupations as miners, smiths, engineers, and other labor-intensive professions, the Nann have cultivated a culture that values rugged endurance and self-expression. Alcohol is almost religious to the Nann, who have also settled their own pantheon which relates to the subterranean world they inhabit. There cities, or Holds, are based around a democratic monarchy, where familiar Clans elect a King of their hold. The race has no central governance, but each Hold is fiercely independant and territorial.
Cities & Settlements
Kharhold - The largest hold on Venrar, producing the largest amount of gold. The current King of Kharhold is Duhrum IV, the patriarch of Clan Goldheart.
Orbiting Bodies
Yamrir - One of the 'three twins'. An uninhabited moon that has been mined clear of resources.
Tohrehn - One of the 'three twins'. A moon currently being mined for its large quantity of precious minerals.
Yaskmir - One of the 'three twins'. A moon currently being drilled for its substantial frozen water.
