Calderia (|Cal-deer-ee-ah|) is the fourth planet from the sun in the Solanis system. It is classified as a Ecumenopolis (planet-wide city) planet. It's atmosphere, damaged from early industry, is a mix of steady light rain and clear overcast. Due to the amount of light sources across the city, which shares the same name as the planet, the night sky is perpetually lit. From space, the planet appears to be dotted with various colored lights, even from a distance. Calderia is regarded as both the capital of the Republic and the home of most of Solanis' corporations.

Physical Characteristics

Originally an ocean planet akin to Old Earth, Calderia has since become a single planet-spanning city. Using the most advanced building methods and materials, it is a center for luxury and commerce. The city of Calderia is seperated into various boroughs, each with their own numerical designations, police force, and local governance. Much of the planets natural resources have been depleted, leading the mining corporations of the planet to seek out asteroids to produce materials. Corporations on Calderia are so prevalent, some even serve as borough governance and police forces.

The architecture of Calderia is notable for its towering buildings, heavy usage of windows and steel, neon lighing, and tightly packed cities. Towards the poles of the planet the city thins into slums, where the buildings are shorter and built out of things like concrete and brick. The only original greenery to be found on the planet's surface is in the Republic's capital, Borough I, where the Senate Hall and Military Academy reside.

Population

Calderia is predominantly human, as it is their native planet after the fall of Old Earth. Other species can be found, but are in the minority. Citizens of Calderia enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle, even in middle and lower class. Access to ammenities, infrastructure, and a stable economy mean many inhabitants are far better off than the other planets regardless of status. Most of the citizens work regular jobs for any of the many corporations that vie for the top, keeping them in a set schedule. Consumer goods are constantly advertised, and a fascination with 'night-life' is shared by a large amount of the population. Clubs, bars, and other social centers are extremely popular as they attend to clientele of various persuasions and levels of ethics.

A large portion of Calderia's population have a fixation on cybernetics. Many get them for cosmetic value instead of out of need. Recent advancements in technology allow for almost any part of the human body to be replaced by cybernetic hardware to increase longevity, performance, or alter one's appearance at will. Those who over-use augments are often referred to as 'Aug-heads' in a derogatory manner. Too many cybernetic enhancements has been known to cause people to enter a catatonic state, their brains overloading and being forced into a coma.
